Band Left Awkward After Onstage Proposal Is Rejected — As Scooby-Doo Consoles Heartbroken Fan
An Australian band found themselves in an uncomfortable moment during a recent live show after a fan’s onstage marriage proposal was unexpectedly rejected.
The incident occurred at a concert by Aussie duo Bootleg Rascal, who are currently touring Australia with a run of shows showcasing their dubstep and hip-hop–influenced sound. The pair had just kicked off their first performances of the year in Brisbane when the awkward scene unfolded.
During the set, a male fan was invited onstage and asked his girlfriend to join him in front of the crowd. Footage later shared on social media shows the man explaining that the couple had seen Bootleg Rascal live around two years earlier and that the band was his partner’s favourite.
“So I thought today, why not?” he said, before dropping to one knee and proposing.
The moment, however, did not go as planned. The woman was seen stepping back, shaking her head, and then leaving the stage — with the man still kneeling in front of the audience.
In the background, one of the band members could be heard reacting to the situation, saying, “Ah shit, that sucks…”
As the crowd processed what had just happened, an unexpected figure rushed onto the stage — someone dressed in a Scooby-Doo costume — who helped the rejected fan to his feet and appeared to comfort him before he exited.
The clip quickly circulated online, drawing a mix of sympathy, second-hand embarrassment, and amusement from viewers.
