Kylie Minogue on Nick Cave and going viral with her new Fully Wrapped Christmas album
Kylie Minogue has spoken about the overwhelming response to her festive release Kylie Christmas (Fully Wrapped), reflecting on its unexpected viral moment, her thoughts on future music in 2026, and whether she might collaborate again with Nick Cave.
The album marks the 10th anniversary of her original Kylie Christmas record and has become her 11th Number One album in the UK. The updated edition revisits the 2015 release while expanding it with new material. Alongside Kylie’s interpretations of seasonal standards such as “Santa Baby” and “It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year”, the original album also featured new songs including “At Christmas” and “100 Degrees”, the latter recorded with her sister Dannii Minogue.
For Fully Wrapped, Kylie added four brand new tracks, one of which — the club-leaning “XMAS” — has quickly taken on a life of its own. The song has sparked a viral dance trend, spreading rapidly across social media and finding fans far beyond Kylie’s usual pop audience.
Speaking about the reaction, the “Padam Padam” singer admitted she hadn’t anticipated just how quickly the song would take off. “It’s been amazing,” she said. “Like with all songs, once they go out into the world, all you want is for them to go out and have their own life. So now it’s pretty weird and amazing having people doing the ‘XMAS’ dance on such a wide scale. I think it’s going to follow me around forever!”
She described being particularly moved by the creativity and communal spirit behind some of the fan-made videos. “I saw that a whole village in Devon made a video doing the ‘XMAS’ dance together,” she said. “It reminded me of that trend with CMAT — the whole ‘butcher, baker, candlestick maker’ thing — and it genuinely made me emotional. To see straight away that it has connected with people and that it means something to them… it’s amazing.”
Beyond the festive success, Kylie also hinted that she’s already thinking ahead. While enjoying the moment, she confirmed that new music is on her radar for 2026, suggesting that the creative momentum she’s riding now isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
When asked about the possibility of working again with Nick Cave — with whom she recorded the haunting 1995 duet “Where The Wild Roses Grow” — Kylie was reflective rather than definitive. She spoke warmly about the collaboration and the unique place it holds in her career, indicating that while nothing is planned, she remains open to the idea if the right moment and song were to present themselves.
For now, though, Kylie is embracing the festive chaos. With Kylie Christmas (Fully Wrapped) dominating charts, “XMAS” soundtracking dance floors and living rooms alike, and fans turning celebration into community, she seems content to let the season — and the song — run its course.
