SCHOOLBOY Q REVEALS KANYE WEST ‘BLUE LIPS’ EASTER EGG DURING CHICAGO SHOW

CHICAGO, IL — ScHoolboy Q has disclosed that a veiled lyric on his latest album Blue Lips was directed at Kanye West. In the laid-back, jazzy track “Blueslides,” the TDE rapper reflects on cancel culture with the lines: “You n-ggas see what I see? / You n-ggas really canceled [blank] / N-gga, I ain’t with it, nah / We was screaming ‘mental health’ and now we wanna kill ’em all.”

During a tour stop in Kanye’s hometown of Chicago on July 24, Q revealed that the obscured reference was indeed about Kanye, according to a fan who attended the show.

In a Reddit post following the concert, user TheMisiak wrote: “Last night at his Chicago show, ScHoolboy Q confirmed that the person he hinted at being unfairly canceled in ‘Blueslides’ was Kanye.” They added: “When Q performed ‘Blueslides,’ he didn’t censor himself as he did on the track. It’s interesting he chose to reveal this during the tour.”

Kanye West has been embroiled in controversy over recent years due to antisemitic remarks that led to the end of his lucrative Yeezy partnership with adidas, among other business setbacks. He has also been criticized for aligning with figures such as Nick Fuentes and Milo Yiannopoulos.

Despite this, ScHoolboy Q has continued to support Ye. Last December, he defended Kanye during a performance in California and maintained his support despite the backlash Kanye has faced for various controversial statements and actions, including praising Hitler, wearing a “White Lives Matter” shirt, and supporting Donald Trump.

In a 2016 interview with Hot 97, ScHoolboy Q had discussed his experience working with Kanye on “THat Part,” expressing initial disappointment with Ye’s verse before appreciating its brilliance. “I was like, ‘Aw, he served me. He gave me the woo-wop,’” he said. “When I heard it, my heart just kept breaking with every ‘Okay.’ And then I’m like, ‘Oh, I get it.’” He added, “That’s why he’s Kanye West.” When performing the track, he noted, “I have to perform Kanye West’s verse just because of the ‘Okays!’ The whole place just screams.”
